Arch Coal's First Quarter Conference Call To Be Broadcast On Internet

ST. LOUIS (April 8, 2005) – Arch Coal, Inc. (NYSE:ACI) will discuss its first quarter financial results in a conference call that will be broadcast live over the Internet on Monday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. E.T. Participating in the call will be Steven F. Leer, Arch's president and chief executive officer, and Robert J. Messey, Arch's senior vice president and chief financial officer.

The webcast will be accessible via the "investor" section of the Arch Coal Web site at www.archcoal.com. Following the live event, replays of the webcast will be available on the site for approximately three weeks.

Arch Coal's first quarter earnings release will be distributed via PR Newswire before the market opens on Monday, April 25, and will be posted to the company's Web site at that time.

Arch Coal is the nation's second largest coal producer with subsidiary operations in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Through these operations, Arch Coal provides the fuel for approximately 7 percent of the electricity generated in the United States.
