Arch Coal’s Fourth Quarter Conference Call To Be Broadcast On Internet

St. Louis - January 18, 2002 - Arch Coal, Inc. (NYSE:ACI) will discuss its fourth quarter financial results in a conference call that will be broadcast live over the Internet on Thursday, January 24, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. Participating in the call will be Steven F. Leer, Arch's president and chief executive officer, and Robert J. Messey, Arch's senior vice president and chief financial officer.

The webcast will be accessible via the "investor" section of the Arch Coal website, at www.archcoal.com. Following the live event, replays of the webcast will be available on the site through February 7, 2002.

Arch Coal's fourth quarter earnings release will be distributed via PR Newswire prior to the market's opening on the day of the call, and will be posted to the company's website at that time.
